Despite its proximity to the town of Brønnøysund, it looks like Inger-Hilde Nyrud’s gallery and atelier is located at the edge of the world. Before visitors even lay eyes on the esteemed art they came to see, they are left contemplating the breathtaking nature found on the doorstep of what was once a relative’s farm. The thought-provoking ambience, enhanced by the sound of the sea crashing in on the Helgeland coast’s barren rocks, is indicative of the art they have in store. “Life – to be a human being – is like an emotional rollercoaster, and I know that many people experience a moment of recognition in my work. Personal things quickly come to the surface. I spend a lot of time creating depth and dynamics through layers upon layers of colourful acrylic paint,” explains Nyrud.
