Fartein Valen

Classical music buffs should be familiar with Fartein Valen, one of the few Norwegian composers whose artistic talent and innovation gained international recognition. To make sure his legacy is not forgotten, the Fartein Valen Foundation in Haugesund works to acquaint more people with Valen’s inspiring style and sound. Valen’s music can be described as powerfully resonant, philosophical and captivatingly atonal. During his lifetime, a Fartein Valen society was established, he was awarded an artist’s salary by the Norwegian parliament and he travelled abroad to cities such as Paris, Rome and Berlin.
