“To take something that is meant for one thing and give it another purpose, that fascinates me,” says Venke Marit Gyllensten, jewellery designer and founder of Gyllensten Design. She finds her inspiration in things that most would likely disregard, and in her workshop in Skien she has made jewellery using everything from copper strings to the remains of old bicycle seats – all by hand. “I have always liked old things and have collected them over the years,” Gyllensten explains. “Now I have a mixture of materials to use.”
