The traditional Norwegian district of Valdres, situated between the two valleys of Gubrandsdal and Hallingdal, is known for its splendid nature, excellent trout fishing and characteristic dialect. Valdres is also home to a rich folk tradition and long history of talented dancers and musicians, of which the most important is said to be Jørn Hilme. “In the early 1800s, long before viral videos, Jørn Hilme’s fiddle music spread quickly and had a huge influence in areas like Sogn, Voss, Numedal, Hallingdal and Telemark,” says Ellen Persvold, festival manager at Jørn Hilmestemnet.
