Aspenäs Herrgård: Nature-inspired harmony at historic manor house

The 200-year-old manor house Aspenäs Herrgård is taking the next step on its journey, with tastefully renovated guest rooms, a newly opened spa, a popular restaurant and café, and an ambition to become a must-visit destination in its own right.
For generations, Aspenäs has been a place for rest and recovery. “Since the late 19th century, when wholesaler Arthur Seaton acquired the estate, people have come here to enjoy the stately manor house and the closeness to nature,” says Clara Wenander, marketing manager. “The tradition lives on and our tranquil settings, beautiful views and culinary experiences attract many visitors, but we’re also continuously updating our facilities to meet changing demands.”
The main building is over 200 years old, and this is where the reception and restaurant is housed, whilst the guest rooms are located in a few different buildings on the estate. “As soon as you arrive, you will feel the peaceful atmosphere,” says Wenander. “There’s something quite special about this location by Lake Aspen.”

A good night’s sleep
In the past 60 years, Aspenäs has primarily been a venue for conferences, meetings and weddings. And whilst those will always remain a focus, the manor house is taking the next step on its journey to attract a wider audience.
Aspenäs offers tastefully decorated rooms, where historic charm meets modern aesthetics. Formerly single rooms have been transformed into bright, stylish double rooms, where comfort meets design. The manor also features new suites with magical lake views.
The restaurant has been completely renovated, too, and given a more modern character. “Aspenäs has become a place where guests want to stay even longer, really creating memories together,” says Wenander.

New spa with lake views
On 13 July, the brand-new, modern spa and retreat opened its doors. “The experience is created to follow the rhythm of nature,” explains the marketing manager. “We have several saunas – including an infrared sauna and a steam sauna – as well as experience showers, a foot spa, quiet relaxation areas, a spa lounge with service and a large terrace facing the lake.”
In addition to the relaxing spa retreat, food remains one of the main strengths at Aspenäs. The restaurant team works with classic Swedish flavours and carefully selected local ingredients from the west coast, and everything is made from scratch. “Our food is the main reason for many guests to visit,” says Wenander. “Here, you can enjoy tasty dishes and let conversations take place, long after the last plates have been cleared.”
The manor house café is a popular spot too, for coffee, lunch and relaxation, with its own dedicated pastry chef. The café is open every day during summer, from 1 July to 9 August, and on weekends the rest of the year.

Outdoor activities and more
The area around Aspenäs is great for outdoor experiences, such as cycling with plenty of winding roads, lakefront stretches and forest trails, as well as paddling, swimming and sailing.
For those who love hiking, the Gotaleden trail is regarded as one of West Sweden’s finest hiking routes, with beautiful scenery and plenty of places to relax and enjoy nature. The trail stretches between Gothenburg and Alingsås, with approximately 71 kilometres of varied nature, including forests, lakes, and open landscapes.
Apart from the outdoor experiences, Aspenäs also organises tastings, live music and activities such as breakfast yoga. “You can come for our delicious breakfast buffet, have a coffee with homemade pastries in the café, enjoy a tasty evening meal, or stay for the night,” advises Wenander. “Treat yourself to a break from everyday life. Bring family and friends, enjoy our peaceful oasis by the lake and let us take care of the rest.”
