Get some poolside pop from the Nordics on your radar before you step out into the heat this July. Scan Magazine has got the Scandipop recommendations you need.

Lifted from her latest album SUOMI SOIMAAN, a superb new song from Vesta, one of Finland’s most acclaimed talents, has revealed itself to be a thoroughly enchanting experience to press play on. Starting off like something from ABBA’s The Visitors album and flirting with that intense sound throughout, Helmi has got all the elements to become a Nordic pop classic, too.

Sweden’s Maria Jane Smith follows up last year’s release of her debut album with a brand-new single that pays homage to her favourite radio-pop of the ’90s, from The Cranberries to Natalie Imbruglia. And as tributes to eras and genres go, Leave My Head really couldn’t have been crafted any more perfectly – an absolute credit to both her songwriting and her passion for music. If you’re a fan of the era, you’ll pick up most of the references contained here.

Finnish newcomer Roosa has followed up her beautiful debut single Elämä Jatkuu with the inevitable ‘Big Pop Moment’. Kultakehykset is single number two and instantly cements her as one of Finland’s most essential to listen out for. Think Tate McRae paired with the finest in Nordic melody composition.

Swedish music legend Lykke Li is out with her latest album The Afterparty, her sixth to date. Along with its lead single Lucky Again, which was featured in Scan Magazine a few months back, there’s another big ol’ Scandipop highlight from the collection of songs. She describes Happy Now as sounding like The Prodigy and ABBA had a baby and it simply won’t stop crying. Having heard/read that, you might find it difficult to think of anything else. Do have a go, though.
