A favourite Finnish pastime is retreating to the countryside, close to water and forests. Located in Häme, in southern Finland, Jokirannantila Estate offers visitors the opportunity to experience an authentic Finnish getaway in one of its private, modern, and comfortable holiday homes.

Owned by the Vainikkala family for over one hundred years, Jokirannantila is run by Timo Vainikkala and his wife Meriitta. The estate comprises five separate holiday homes dotted around pristine lakes with small private beaches, saunas, and jetties. “As hosts, we’re located a short drive away and on hand for guests 24/7,” says Meritta Walden-Vainikkala. “Our visitors love the modern design and comforts of our accommodation and the peacefulness of the surroundings. Many are repeat visitors, and one popular attraction is that pets are allowed in all our homes.”

Three of the villas are spacious enough for larger groups of around eight to ten guests and include large terraces. One is a particularly secluded luxury home on the island of Lammassaari, where there are no other buildings. Two smaller homes are well suited to intimate gatherings or family stays. Throughout, the interiors follow a clean, modern and comfortable Nordic style, while all accommodation includes rowing boats, sports equipment, books and toys for younger guests.

When it comes to the tranquillity of the area, this can be enjoyed outside and inside all year round. “In summer, there are forests walks, and numerous places for picking berries and mushrooms,” says Walden-Vainikkala. “In winter, you can ski, skate and enjoy the sauna, and afterwards, a dip in the water is enjoyable whether it’s sunny or snowy.” Many visitors also enjoy daily rowing or fishing trips on the lakes. But despite the secluded atmosphere, stores, cafés and modern conveniences are only a 30-minute drive away.

For those looking for a bit of culture or city life, museums, galleries and theatres are awaiting in Tampere and Jyväskylä. Moreover, the nearby town of Mänttä is a well-known centre for art and culture and offers numerous possibilities for trying local cuisine.

In short, Joikrannantila allows guests to truly relax and enjoy themselves, says Walden-Vainikkala. “We love this area and are happy to share it with our guests, ensuring they have beautiful homes to enjoy and a comfortable stay. It’s what we do best.”
