Ribersborgs Kallbadhus: Rejuvenate your body and soul by the sea

Perched along the beautiful seashore in Malmö, the outdoor bathing establishment, spa and restaurant Ribersborgs Kallbadhus offers a moment of relaxation. Come for the fantastic bathing facilities, a massage, a tasty meal, or just a rejuvenating walk along the sea.
The historic Ribersborgs Kallbadhus, also called Kallis, is one of Sweden’s oldest and best-preserved facilities of its kind. Malmö residents have been able to enjoy cold swimming here since 1898, and the pools, sun decks and cabins tell the story of the city’s bathing history. Over the years, various parts have been exposed to the forces of the sea and winds, and the listed building has gradually been repaired yet maintains its beauty.
With around 300,000 people using the cold bathing facilities every year, Ribersborgs Kallbadhus is one of the most visited destinations in Malmö. Many also come here to enjoy a fika or lunch in the restaurant, attend one of the many events, or perhaps just to go for a walk along the sea. “This is a real gem in Malmö, and appreciated by locals as well as visitors from further afield,” says Jonas Rincon-Dahlberg at Hekajo, the company that has run Ribersborgs Kallbadhus since 2009. “The sensation of being this close to the open sea and still just a short walk from the city centre offers instant relief and relaxation.”
The cold bathhouse is open all year round and features two large outdoor unheated sea pools, hot tubs, and several saunas, including a wood-fired sauna, a dry sauna, a humid sauna and an IR sauna – with fantastic views of the sea. You can also treat yourself to a range of different massages. The bath is divided into a ladies’ and a men’s section, but Ribersborgs Kallbadhus also hosts mixed sessions on the first Monday of every month, when the bathhouse is open to everyone regardless of gender, body type and identity.
“Our ambition is that Kallis will always be an inclusive and welcoming oasis,” says Rincon-Dahlberg. “Coming here is an experience. In addition to our bathing and treatment options, you can also just come to enjoy Malmö’s best sunset. Regardless, you will leave feeling a bit lighter.”
There is plenty more happening at Ribersborgs Kallbadhus, such as after beach events with DJ, jazz gigs and stand-up comedy. On 3 July, the venue hosts a seafood night celebrating fresh coastal flavours. It is also a popular setting for weddings, birthdays and other celebrations, as well as corporate gatherings. “We have a wonderful mix of events,” adds Rincon-Dahlberg. “It’s well worth coming here, just a short walk from downtown Malmö. And it’s just as beautiful in winter.”
