In recent years, interest in Nordic wellness has grown far beyond the tradition’s icy origins. Among fjords, forests, and cold waters, the humble sauna has become a place of community, a cultural symbol, and a timeless wellbeing ritual. In Norway, Stavanger- based company Booksauna is redefining how people experience this tradition.
On a calm Norwegian fjord, a soft plume of steam rises into the cold air. Inside a glowing cabin,a gentle hiss of water sounds from the hot stones. Here, at the intersection of fire and ice, youfind the very essence of Booksauna, a Stavanger-based company.

Founded in 2022 by Stefan Kunnas, Booksauna AS is run by a small team of sauna enthusiasts and offers both floating and land-based saunas in carefully chosen locations in Norway. Every sauna session is completely private, meaning you get the whole sauna to yourself in the reserved time slot. “Our goal is to make the authentic Nordic sauna available to as many as possible, keeping it affordable and with top-level customer service,” says Kunnas.

Every site, whether in Stavanger, Sandnes or Jæren, is chosen for its particular atmosphere – from lively waterfront settings to quieter locations immersed in nature. The aim is to help guests feel connected to their surroundings while relaxing in warmth and calm.
“We seek to distinguish ourselves through high quality, a Nordic architectural expression, and saunas built according to a Finnish recipe,” Kunnas explains. “These are developed under the supervision of our own sauna specialist, who ensures proper ventilation and convection in the sauna room for the best possible löyly – the way steam spreads in the room,” Kunnas explains.

More than just heat
For Booksauna, the sauna experience is about far more than design or technical detail. Rather, it is about people and well-being. “Freestanding saunas in nature or urban settings give people a unique break from everyday stress,” he says.
Studies have found that regular sauna use is associated with a lower risk of
cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and stroke. It is also amazing for sleep, a way to relax muscles, and a proven serotonin booster. When the body experiences mild heat stress, it triggers brain neurons to release chemicals that improve mood, reduce anxiety, and promote calm – all of which the Booksauna guests often report.
Some visitors arrive with friends and family, while others seek solitude. Regardless of whether
you want social time with loved ones, use the sauna to alleviate muscle aches or other problems, or simply just want some quiet time for yourself, Booksauna has a steaming hot sauna waiting for you somewhere along the Norwegian waterfront.
