For teenagers dreaming of a career in farming, gardening or animal use, Hvam senior high school is known to be an excellent educational choice. At first sight, the renowned school, located in the village of Hvam about 50 kilometres northeast of Oslo, may come across as a sizeable Norwegian farm – and it actually is. Numerous red farm buildings housing cattle, pigs, poultry and horses surround a large, characteristic brick house in an endless sea of green fields, where versatile farming activities are carried out by the students themselves. Inside one of the red buildings, in conjunction with a greenhouse, the farm shop Beite sells the fresh produce made alongside a wide range of local products from eastern Norway.
