One of the most iconic hotels in the south of Sweden charms visitors with a mix of history, international presence and lively atmosphere. Grand Hotel Lund is not just a hotel – it is a place where people come to meet, enjoy first-class food and wine, and stay the night.

Grand Hotel opened in 1899, and for generations it has been run by the Paulsson family. Visitors will sense its history as soon as they walk through the doors. With many well-preserved original features, for instance in the lobby and the elegant banquet hall, this luxury hotel has soul.

Clearly, Grand Hotel Lund knows the art of throwing a party as people have gathered here to eat, drink and dance for decades – academics, entrepreneurs and international and local profiles – all adding to the buzzing atmosphere. The family-run hotel has 84 rooms and suites of premium standard, including four tower rooms, all oozing sophistication.

“Grand Hotel Lund has a festive character. It’s historic and vibrant at the same time,” says Rikard Paulsson, CEO. “When you step inside, you’ll immediately feel that lots is going on here, from morning to night. This is a natural meeting place in Lund with a mix of guests dressed in ball gowns and tailcoats, business travellers and loyal locals, all having a fantastic time.”

Gambrinus, Ingrid and a renowned wine cellar

The hotel’s popular bistro Gambrinus is the go-to place in Lund. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of the week, guests can also enjoy brunch and afternoon tea on weekends. “Gambrinus is buzzing with life, movement and meetings throughout most of the day,” says Paulsson. “People come here for a delicious meal, or just a cup of coffee or a drink.”

The team’s passion for well-cooked food is obvious. “We’re privileged to have Skåne’s rich pantry on our doorstep,” says the CEO. This is also reflected in the menu, which breathes local food culture. Whilst the menu changes according to season, popular Swedish classics are always available.

Ingrid is Grand Hotel Lund’s summer restaurant – home to the sunniest and most stylish outdoor terrace in the city, overlooking Bantorget. Here, you can soak up the sun, enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city, and settle in for a coffee, drink, smørrebrød or ice cream.

The renowned wine cellar is part of the experience at Grand Hotel Lund and guests travel from all over the world for the wine collection, which features exquisite wines and is certified with the Best Award of Excellence. “Since the 1980s, we’ve collected some of the world’s best wines and we’re constantly buying new ones,” says Paulsson. “It happens that we have wine-interested parties from, for instance, the USA and Singapore, who travel here just because of our wine cellar.” For those who want to explore Skåne’s wines further, a visit to Flädie Vineyard in Bjärred is recommended.

Celebrate Midsummer at the palace-like hotel

Grand Hotel Lund offers some fantastic packages, including a Midsummer special. Combine festivities at Kulturen, Lund’s cultural history museum, with a three-course Midsummer menu in bistro Gambrinus and a relaxing stay at the hotel. Upon check-in, you will even receive a small bouquet with seven types of flowers. According to Swedish Midsummer tradition, these are to be placed under the pillow, and you will dream of your future partner.

During summer, Grand Hotel Lund offers family-friendly activities such as summer cinema for the kids – so that parents can leave their little ones for some peace and quiet for a while – and there will also be a cart with sweets and fruit available in the lobby.

Beyond the hotel itself, Lund is a fantastic destination to explore, from rich cultural history to research and innovation, picturesque cobbled streets in the well-preserved city centre, and scenic nature. The city is easily accessible, with Malmö Airport only 25 minutes away by train and Copenhagen Airport just a bit further, with around 40 minutes by train.
