April in particular is set to be an exciting month, as a watch made from melted-down illegal weapons is prelaunched. “When we heard about this metal being made, we saw a unique opportunity to make a watch with a difference – to add unexploited values that are about more than status,” says Scheja about Humanium Metal, a project initiated by IM Swedish Development Partner and GreatWorks. “They’re literally collecting illegal weapons from the streets, melting them down, creating this metal and selling it – and then the money goes back to the exposed countries. It’s like an eco-system of sorts.”
